Candidates who wish to file for the 2016 General Primary Election will find required forms in the 2016 Candidate's Guide available on the Illinois State Board of Elections website. The 2016 election cycle circulation and filing dates and campaign finance filing deadlines will also be on the site (2016 Election and Campaign Finance Calendar).

Review of Petition Papers
The Lake County Clerk and staff cannot provide a review of nominating papers or legal opinions regarding petition papers. Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to consult competent legal counsel regarding qualifications to seek office, preparation of petition papers, circulator requirements, signature requirements, etc. After petition papers have been filed, pages cannot be amended or added. A receipt for filing the required Statement of Economic Interests may be added until 5 p.m. on the last day to file.
Legal Objections to Nominating Papers
A candidate’s nominating papers are subject to legal challenge by qualified objectors when forms are incomplete or improperly completed. Appointments for reviewing the voter registration of petition signers should be made with the Lake County Clerk's Office.
